Jewell Ernestine Greathouse, 87, of Looneyville, died at 8:25 p.m., Saturday, May 26, 2012 in Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after an extended illness.

                She was born March 29, 1925, in Roane County, a daughter of the late John Robert “Rob” and Lucy Hascue Dougherty.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Edward Daugherty; husband, Denzil Strickland; brother, Ovie Daugherty; sisters, Eupha and Geneva Daugherty; step mother, Macel Helper Dougherty; half-brother, Robert Dougherty.

                Mrs. Greathouse was a homemaker, member of the Landmark Baptist Church, Looneyville and a lifelong resident of Roane County.

                Survivors include her husband, Homer Greathouse; half-brother and his wife, Terry and Norma Dougherty of Dunbar; niece and her husband, Sharon and Scottie Johnson of Walton.

                A private graveside service is being planned following cremation.

                John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is in charge of arrangements.
