Leon Gilbert Edgell, 89, of New Martinsville, died at 12:10 a.m., Wednesday, July 4, 2012, in the New Martinsville Care and Rehabilitation Center, after a long illness.

                Mr. Edgell was born June 17, 1923, at Looneyville, the son of the late Glyde and Zella Looney Edgell.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Juanita and son, Roger.

                He was retired from Union Carbide Corporation, a member of the Paden City Church of the Nazarene and an Army veteran of World War II.

                Survivors include a daughter, Donna Edgell of Paden City; daughter-in-law, Lenamae Edgell of Canal Fulton, OH; grandsons, Jeff and his wife, Lori Edgell and Larry Edgell all of Clinton, OH; great grandchildren, Travis, Jordan, Cole, Jacob and Joshua also of Clinton, OH; sisters, Carol Ragan, Rosalee Ashman and Jean Griffith.

                A funeral service will be held Friday, July 6 at 2:00 p.m. in the Epling Chapel Baptist Church, Looneyville, with the Rev. Justin S. Simmons officiating.  Burial, with military rites, will be in the Epling Chapel Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church one hour before the funeral.
