Virginia Edith “Granny” Lloyd, 76, of Spencer, died Saturday, October 11, 2003, at home.

She was born September 30, 1927, at Grannies Creek, Roane County, a daughter of the late Cecil and Clara Runnion Nichols. She was a retired employee of the Roane General Hospital and a former employee of the Spencer State Hospital.  She was a member of the Linden Chapter No. 152, Order of the Eastern Star, Linden and the Zion Hill Baptist Church, Elana.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Freeland of Spencer; two sons, Allen Lloyd of Newton and Virgil Lloyd of Spencer; one brother, Harold Nichols of Harmony; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Velbert V. Lloyd; one son, Harold Lloyd; one daughter, Joyce Lloyd; two brothers, Paul and Tim Nichols; one sister, Ruth Henry.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, October 14 at 11:00 a.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Jack Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the King-Kirkhart Cemetery, Newton.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Monday.
