John L. Dye, 91, of Spencer, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, in the
Roane General Hospital Emergency Department, following a fall at
his home.
He was born Wednesday, August 20, 1916, at Stringtown, a son of
the late Lothrop Fulton “L.F.” and Lexie A. Kincaid Dye. In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved
wife of 70 years, Evelyn Stemple Dye, on May 14, 2007; also, his
beloved granddaughter, Beth Cassady Karns, two brothers and
three sisters.
John worked in several jobs over many years, including serving
as the superintendent of the Spencer Sanitary Board for 40 years
and as a land surveying engineer for over 40 years. He also
sold insurance in Roane County for almost 40 years, the last few
years working with a partner, the Hon. Terry Williams, Mayor of
Spencer.
Among his greatest sources of fulfillment was the service he
gave to his church, teaching Sunday school for almost 60 years
and recently being honored as “Deacon Emeritus.” His love of
people and his concern for others was well known.
Survivors include one daughter, Marty Cassady of Dallas, TX; one
son, Carson F. Dye of Toledo, OH; four grandchildren, Carly Dye
Adams of Columbus, OH, Emily Dye, Liesl Dye and Blakely Dye all
of Toledo; one great grandson, Isaac Karns of Cincinnati, OH.
Friends may call at the First Baptist Church of Spencer Tuesday,
May 20 from 6-8 p.m. where the funeral service will be held
Wednesday, May 21 at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Michael F. “Mike”
King officiating. Burial will be in the Eventide Cemetery,
Spencer.
